Inclusive Energy Conversations in the Yukon

Exploring Community Perspectives

Energy is a part of our daily lives, yet how we produce and use it shapes greenhouse gas emissions and influences social, economic, and environmental outcomes within the communities where we live and work. A key goal of this research project is to work with communities across Yukon to identify pathways that create positive local outcomes and to understand what those outcomes look like from community perspectives. We are currently engaging with communities throughout the Territory to better understand their priorities related to energy, sovereignty, governance, and everyday community needs.

Complementing this engagement work, our research is developing new decision-support methods to help governments, utilities, and communities evaluate long-term energy investment choices under uncertain future conditions. Through studies of the Yukon power system, we examined how different planning strategies and electricity generation options can support sustainability, reliability, and affordability objectives, providing insights that can inform energy decisions in Yukon and beyond.
